Electrical Conductivity Apparatus
Product Code : JL-LEP-10395
The Electrical Conductivity Apparatus (SKU JL-LEP-10395) gives a visual demonstration of whether a liquid or solution conducts electricity, distinguishing electrolytes from non-electrolytes. The electrical conductivity apparatus has a 200 mL borosilicate jar with a PVC cover, copper and carbon electrodes wired in series with a 3 V lamp, and runs on two AA cells or a 0–12 V DC supply. JaincoLab manufactures it in India for school chemistry.
Specifications
The apparatus consists of a 200 mL flat-bottomed borosilicate jar (72–75 mm by 75–80 mm) with a green PVC cover carrying a 60 mm copper wire anode and a 60 mm carbon rod cathode on binding posts, a 3.0 V indicator lamp in series, an AA battery holder, a 0–12 V DC supply option and two leads with alligator clips.

Applications of the electrical conductivity apparatus
Students fill the jar with a test liquid and watch the lamp: a bright glow shows a strong electrolyte, a dim glow a weak electrolyte and no glow a non-electrolyte, which leads into lessons on ions in solution.
- Testing tap water, distilled water, salt solution and sugar solution for conductivity
- Comparing strong and weak electrolytes by the brightness of the lamp
- Showing that ionic compounds conduct when dissolved in water
- Linking conductivity to the presence of ions in chemistry lessons
- Electrochemistry introductions in secondary science and chemistry
